The 7th Ray Age heralds the expression of Life and Consciousness through Form. The hallmark of the 7th Ray is not just embodiment but empowerment that emerges through the at-one-ment of these three, Life, Consciousness, Form. We are used to associating “power” with the 1st Ray, but as the first shall be last, and the last shall be first, the 7th Ray is also one of power, an empowerment known as magic. 7th Ray empowerment is creative and completive in nature, rooting the will and power of the monad in the depths of Form. Thus, the wheel turns and the latent power hidden in the body and material form is revealed, literally transforming the atoms of our being on all levels through this at-one-ment between highest and lowest. Life, Consciousness, Form become perfected and completed through each other. This is alchemy, this is the fire of fulfillment, this is magic – when Will (and the Life Principle) can express and enact in the world its true purposes through Conscious Form.
DK speaks on the magic arising from the triple alignment of Life, Consciousness, and Form in passages from OC (pp. 131-2) about the word of power SATVA. This word (or any word or act for that matter) becomes one of power when form (sound and shape, performance), meaning (consciousness), and significance (purpose) are synchronized, creating the magical efficacy behind that formula. Applying the principle into the wider field, any act becomes an act of power and invocation of Life into the depths when it involves a synchronous synthesization between that act’s manifest form, its conscious meaning, and the purposeful significance or will behind it.
There is also the matter where DK states that, “If the disciple is able to maintain identification with the hub of the wheel through a cycle of twelve months then initiation or the restoration of identity at that hub becomes possible” (OC, p. 105). As individuals and a group, we can apply this principle of synchronous synthesization as demonstrated by SATVA into our greater work and cyclical practices.
THE ZODIACAL RITUAL
We suggest applying this principle through a 1st, 2nd, and 7th Ray united approach towards the twelve months zodiacal cycle, potentially involving an initiatory leap for the school group and also the individual members who participate. This would involve a monthly ritual undertaken by each of us individually according to our own creativity, applying this triple alignment between manifest form, conscious meaning, and purposeful significance.
The 1st Ray aspect connects with the “purpose” and “significance” of such a monthly ritual. The ritual’s core purpose would be the invocation and surrender into Life and Will, which can be aligned with through the archetypes of the Zodiac.
The 2nd Ray aspect connects with the “meaning” of the ritual experience, shared through consciousness in a way that expands, refines, educates, and unifies.
The 7th Ray aspect connects with the “form” and “manifestation” of the ritual, embodied in a physically enacted way that requires one’s powers of creativity and coordination.
The monthly zodiacal ritual should ideally reflect in its form the very same meaning and purpose of the ritual, thus creating that synchronous synthesization underlying empowerment. We propose that we do these rituals around the zodiacal Full Moon, using the Seed Thoughts of that astrological sign to inspire the ritual form. Restated in more practical terms, the ritual format will involve:
- An alignment and invocation of the Life-Principle while also consciously focusing on that particular zodiac’s energy of purpose.
- A conscious development of your own ritual and infusing the ritual itself with your own consciousness. (E.g., enact the ritual consciously.) The zodiacal sign itself speaks through its archetypes to consciousness.
- A physical embodiment and symbolic enactment of the purpose itself, as found in that zodiac’s Seed Thought and also your own intuitions and relationship with that Zodiacal Sign and Seed Thought.
The keynote in this ritual process is FREEDOM. You are free to embody and enact the energy and power of Life as it expresses for you at this particular turn of the wheel, at this particular sign in the Zodiac.
We will start this twelve month cycle in Cancer, the sign of birth and the depths of form. Each month, Jon and Jenn will provide keynotes and a consciousness-centering purpose formula before the Full Moon to help focus our group and individual efforts.
To illustrate what we are proposing, here are some examples for what a zodiac ritual form in Cancer could look like. It’s up to you though to find something that resonates and embodies your own expression of the Zodiacal Ritual. What would a ritual form look like that embodies and aligns with the consciousness and purpose behind that zodiacal sign? Of course, please be conscious and thoughtful in your ritual actions. Do not attempt something that could lead to self-harm, fire, etc.
Cancer – The lives must be fed. Nourish the lives. – I will build a lighted house and therein dwell.
- Paint your body with glow-in-the-dark paint (so that “form” becomes “lighted”) and celebrate the dark light within your form as it becomes kissed and transformed by conscious light.
- Build a small “house” (for example, poke willow strips or branches into the ground to form a teepee like structure) and light it with a contained flame, again so that the form becomes lighted.
- Cook a well-thought out meal and feed yourself or someone else. Make this a ritual by consciously “nourishing the lives” through this food so that the light or energy within form can be released.
- Hold a tea ceremony. “Light” your teapot warmer or turn on the stove and as the water boils, as you prepare the tea, and as you serve it, attend to the alchemy of tea as it unifies all the elements, as it gives space for form, and as it thus nourishes, warms, and fills.
Each of these ritual acts is to be performed while conscious of the Life that you are expressing, with your purpose and Will firmly aligned in your awareness. These are not just symbolic acts but acts of intention, a declaration of Will, an invocation that “this” (whatever your purpose, whatever the zodiac sign brings to you) be so, that this expression of Life come to fruition.
We then suggest that people photograph some aspect of their ritual and share it in the group space via the Shamballa School Facebook or Ning site, towards that 2nd Ray aim of expanding, refining, educating, and unifying.
This is an opportunity for us to express our own unique and differentiated creativity through aligned purpose centered around the “hub of the wheel through the twelve months.”
Participation is of course up to your free will and there is no judgment or pressure to be involved. We simply ask, where does your Will stand here? Are you ready to commit to this year-long journey to experience the empowerment and enlivening of form through the conscious embodiment and invocation of Life?
